Green stuff

At Plas Efenechtyd Cottage we are committed to reducing the impact we make on the environment. Our Green Policy gives the details but this is a summary:

Energy use

  1. BulletWe are replacing light bulbs with low energy ones

  2. BulletWe dry all washing on the line, weather permitting. We do put the towels in the tumble dryer for a few minutes to keep them fluffy though.

  3. BulletWe are replacing old kitchen appliances with A rated ones

Reducing waste and recycling

  1. BulletWe recycle as much as we can including cans, paper, cardboard, orange juice cartons, plastic bottles

  2. BulletWe use refillable dispensers for hand soap, shower gel and bath foam

  3. BulletWe compost what we can

Food miles

  1. BulletWe buy local produce where possible: our sausages are made by a local butcher, bacon is from a nearby farm shops and our eggs are from Rhesgoed Farm shop and also from our own hens. Most of our other food is from the Co-op.

Sustainabilty health check

In May 2008 we had a sustainabilty health check by Business Sense (Synnwyr Busnes), a specialist business support service in sustainable development, based at Bangor University. The report says:

"Plas Efenechtyd Cottage B&B achieved very good scores for the economy (84%), social (73%) and environmental (71%) dimensions".

We were pleased to have our efforts recognised and the report has given us many ideas for further improvement.
